The 26th National Street Choir Festival is nearly here -
and we have 26 choirs participating!
Brighton ChoirFest 2008 is ready to hit the streets on Friday 11th – Sunday 13th July, hosted by community choir favourites Hullabaloo Quire. The City of Brighton and Hove is delighted to welcome the festival, which began twenty-six years ago as part of the political protest song movement and has since expanded to include community choirs of all types with the aim of encouraging more people to use song - collectively, publicly and powerfully - as a contribution to personal and global change.
Brighton is already warming the sea and polishing the pier for the arrival of over 400 voices! A spirited welcome party awaits you on Friday evening at the Corn Exchange in the heart of the city, where this year’s Mayor will open the festival. Some of the city’s most feisty musicians are preparing to perform while choirs arrive, register and settle in to a weekend of friendship and song. Come and join us for the ChoirFest Welcome Party at the Corn Exchange on Friday 11th July.
Highlights of the weekend include a Massed Sing outside the Fishing Museum on the lower promenade with the sea for inspiration, and another outside the magnificent new Jubilee Library which has won numerous eco-awards for its outstanding design features. Busking sites are dotted around the Royal Pavilion, seaside, and the hugely characterful North Laines. The Dome Concert Hall, once home to the Prince Regent’s horses will be the site of our 25 choir showdown - ChoirFest in Concert - on the Saturday night.
